I have been training with Melissa for 4yrs. My husband and I found the gym, because I made a promise that every year older, I will learn or experience something new. Kura used to be a CrossFit Gym; Group fitness is fun, but I didn’t get to connect with the coaches, nor understand what’s next after the WODs? How do I train my weaknesses, when it’s a group setting?
Since then, Kura has changed to an individual program, an OPEX gym. After consultation at the start of each phase, Melissa designs my daily workout according to what makes sense for me. Consequently, I appreciate how that change has made me a more cross-trained Pilates instructor. I always make references to OPEX Kura, because I’m actually connecting my training & Pilates to help others.
On a personal level, I’ve learn to love the concept of growing in your own skin and personal goals; just like LIFE. I definitely love competition, but I understand now that working towards a scoreboard is not gonna define who I am as an athlete. That feeling of am I good enough, or damn that didn’t make it and I totally choke, is a let down. With my own program, I am wiser, my pull/press/lift are stronger, and just overall more connected and happier. There’s no random WOD of the day.
It’s been 4 years, and there is still a drive because each year that I’m older at Kura, Coach Melissa (and other coaches) has showed me what it truly means to be more grounded, and knowledgeable about fitness for sustainability.
What I get to do at Kura is definitely a reward.
